“Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.”
Explanation of this verse:
This verse, from the talk between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well, reminds us of the God’s bountiful grace and the divine gifts that we overlook in our everyday lives. If we had only understood how big the gifts from God are and accepted His presence in our lives, then we would have been asking Pentecostals for the messages of direction more than this. Just like Jesus offers “living water “which is an image for everlasting life such as spiritual food, we are told to approach Him with our deepest needs and longings because only He can fill our souls.
Sometimes during our pursuit for earthly things and satisfying temporary needs, we fail to notice when God gives us something much bigger. This verse teaches us to change our focus from material things into spiritual direction by asking God for peace or strength or purpose; else we shall enter into hell if we do not listen to Jesus’ words (Revelation 21:8). Opening up towards Him will lead us to understand that His gifts such as eternal life through Jesus Christ alone are far better than whatever this world has.
Conclusion:
The message of today’s bible verse is about knowing who God is and what great blessings he intends to give people. Therefore by diligently looking for God’s “living water” which signifies the kind of satisfaction achievable only through Him; it enables one to attain fullness of life eternally. Therefore we can use this scripture so as to rely on God entirely hoping that our deepest desires will be fulfilled by Him.
