Explanation:
Today’s bible verse reminds us of the bitter fact that the people nearest to us do not always see our real value and our calling. Son of God or not, Jesus Himself knew this firsthand. Although He was doing miracles and sharing divine words, His very own folks—those from His town—did not believe in Him. They viewed Him as the son of the carpenter, too familiar to be seriously considered as the messianic Messiah. This is a deeper truth: familiarity can turn to contempt, and it is hard for individuals to see greatness in somebody they view as ordinary.
This bible verse of the day also resonates with any individual who has felt rejected or ignored by the people they believed would support them. Messengers and prophets tend to be revered in far-off places but encounter opposition in those who have grown up seeing them. This does not speak of their value, but the narrow sightedness of those around us. Jesus drew from His own experience to teach His followers to expect that even God’s purpose can be resented or rejected by the people closest to us.
