Isaiah 5:11
“Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!”
Explanation:
Today’s bible verse is a severe warning against the sins of overindulgence, especially drinking and the pursuit of hedonistic lifestyles. It speaks to those who spend their whole day in search of strong drink, from dawn until dusk, letting wine dominate and possess them. The words “woe unto them” are a divine complaint or condemnation, indicating that God does not approve of fleshly lives lived for carnality and addictive habits. Rather than being productive or spiritually conscious, they squander their time, dulling their senses and disconnecting from the will of God.
This bible verse of the day also puts attention to a greater moral and spiritual deterioration. By letting wine to “inflame” them, it is more representative of how their passions, feelings, and choices are now not led by wisdom and righteousness but by drunkenness and wild abandon. Such a way of life usually results in shattered relationships, lost obligations, and spiritual barrenness. Chasing permanent pleasure makes individuals blind to the effects of their actions and numbs their ears to God’s voice and plan for their lives.

We need to be careful not to get into patterns that lead to spiritual numbness and self-destruction. Rather than pursuing momentary pleasures, we are invited to pursue God in the early morning hours and live with intention, discipline, and clarity. This means practically establishing healthy boundaries, staying away from addictive patterns, and investing our time in serving God and others with a sober, watchful heart.
