“Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.”

Today’s Bible verse tells us about a difficult time, When the devil tempts Jesus in the wilderness, he is faced with a difficult decision: the devil offers Jesus “all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them.” From the mountaintop, Jesus sees the vast expanse of humanity’s achievements: empires built on wealth, power, and conquest. The devil positions these earthly kingdoms as readily available to Jesus, all within his grasp. This offer is not to be taken lightly. It represents the very things that humans often crave: control, influence, and the ability to shape the world according to their will.
Further, in this bible verse, we see that The cost of the devil’s offer is adoration. He insists that Jesus surrender and recognize him as the origin of this authority. This is a really important aspect. The devil is attacking Jesus’ fundamental beliefs about God and his own holy mission, in addition to tempting him with worldly prosperity. Christ rejects the devil’s offer with haste and determination. He says, “Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” In these statements, Jesus reaffirms his loyalty to God and categorically rejects the devil’s temptation. He tells the demon and himself that true strength comes from constant faith and commitment to God, not from material things or kingdoms.
