Matthew 5:28
“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
Explanation:
Today’s Bible verse: In this verse, Jesus shows that sin starts in the heart, which then becomes evident through our actions. Lustfully looking at a person means much more than just having a thought; it indicates that your heart is straying from God’s standard of purity. Whereas people may only be interested in your actions, God knows what is happening in your mind and the real motives behind those actions. This verse emphasizes the need for God to cleanse one’s heart of impure thoughts and desires.
Today’s bible verse: This teaching challenges believers to strive for sanctification through their mind and body. The eyes, thoughts, and imagination ought to be directed by the Word of God and not worldly things that will lure them into sin. Through the Holy Spirit, one is able to resist any sinful inclinations and opt to fill the mind with things that are holy, right, and pleasing to God. In this case, Jesus is not punishing those who are tempted but challenging them to have a heart for purity.
Conclusion:
So, Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, this is a good reminder for us to be cautious about our hearts, as what we think controls how we act, as well as our relationship with God. We can do this by taking care of what we view, what we read, and what we think of, staying away from anything that might cause us to sin, and by asking for guidance from God through prayer and His word every day. Through giving our hearts to Christ and allowing Him to change our minds, we become pure and loving like Him.
