Matthew 6:1
“Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen* of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.”
Explanation:
In this verse, the main lesson of this Bible verse is that we must assist others with a genuine heart without desiring any publicity, commendation, or recognition from people. Jesus tells us that we shouldn’t do good things just to prove to others how charitable and religious we are. Assisting the poor, feeding the hungry, assisting poor families, and helping others in need is good work, which must be done with love and compassion. Our primary motive for assisting others must be to glorify God and serve Him. The motives of our heart are known to God only, who appreciates our sincerity much more than the praise of the people.
Today’s Bible verse: The lesson in this scripture also brings to mind the fact that righteousness is independent of any form of recognition. There are those who help others simply because they want to receive admiration, respect, and the reputation of being generous from the community around them. Jesus, however, instructs us that we ought to do what we do out of genuine faith and love. In helping someone or giving to charity in secret, we show humility and a heart for God. We do not mean that all good works should always remain unknown but that we should desist from performing good works for the sole purpose of receiving praise. Instead, our acts should glorify God. Even when no one recognizes the good we do, we can rest assured that God sees it.
Conclusion:
So, Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, according to Matthew 6:1, we should help others humbly, lovingly, and sincerely. This can be applied through helping poor families, feeding starving individuals, and donating for charitable purposes without seeking recognition or reward from anyone. Before performing an act of goodwill, one should reflect on his/her intentions and check whether he/she is performing it because of God’s pleasure or that of other people. Additionally, we should not boast of our good acts or measure them against the ones of other people. Let us always remember that God knows even the smallest act of goodness that we do in sincerity of heart. Therefore, whenever we help others out of love and seek God’s glory instead of human glory, we perform a great act of faithfulness.
