Luke 1:20
“And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.”
Explanation:
In this verse, the lesson on faith in the promises of God can be learnt from the Bible verse Luke 1:20. These words were said to Zacharias by the angel Gabriel since he did not have any belief in the promises God gave him. Zacharias and his wife, Elisabeth, were both old people who did not have any children. The angel Gabriel promised Zacharias that his wife would bear a son named John the Baptist. However, it was not easy for Zacharias to believe the promise since the couple was already old. As a consequence of this, he lost his power of speech until God fulfilled the promise.

Today’s Bible verse: This verse also teaches us that God’s fulfillment of His promises takes place in due time. At times, we find ourselves having difficulty believing God’s Word because of our situation in life, which suggests that there is nothing to hope for anymore. It seems like our prayers are never answered immediately, and life just gets harder for us. But God is not hindered or restricted in any way with regard to fulfilling His plans and promises because of any of our weaknesses or situations that we find ourselves in. Rather than letting ourselves become afraid and doubtful, let us build up our faith through prayer and reading of the Bible.
Conclusion:
So, Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, the teaching in Luke 1:20 encourages us to have faith in the promises of God despite our inability to understand how those promises will be fulfilled. This lesson can guide us in our lives by putting faith in the Word of God, showing patience in difficult situations, and praying despite not seeing any quick response from God. Our doubts or lack of knowledge should not undermine our faith in God. Rather, we should acknowledge that God knows what is best for us and that He operates on His own perfect timing. Whenever we are uncertain, we can pray to God to strengthen our faith in Him and in His plans for us.
