“Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.”
Explanation:
As we learn in today’s Bible verse, whenever we serve the poor and needy in a kind way and give generously to them, we ought to do it in sincerity and humility. This means that we should not make our acts of kindness known to all or seek recognition and accolades through such acts of kindness. Jesus goes ahead to say that there are some people who help others not out of genuine love for them but in order to seek honor from other people. It is obvious that their intentions are not pure since they aim at serving themselves and not God.

In this bible verse, another lesson taught by Jesus is that when people perform acts of kindness for gaining attention of the others, then their praise is their reward. But God wants that we serve others out of love and kindness rather than doing something expecting some rewards or favors. Generosity does not need an audience; whether others see our act of kindness or not, God sees us. So, instead of showing off through our acts of kindness, we must know that whatever we have, it is a gift of God, and we must use these gifts for serving the others.
Conclusion:
So, Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, the lessons that this Today’s bible verse offers for our day-to-day life can be seen in helping the poor families, providing food to the hungry people, and assisting those in distress and helping others without trying to be seen or get noticed for it. We should not brag about our charitable works or use our kindness in order to feel superior to other people. On the contrary, we need to help people in a private manner and not forget that our mission is to glorify God, but not to make an impression on other people. We can analyze our motives before carrying out any good work and consider why we do it – because we are really motivated by love or because we want to be seen or noticed.
