Romans 2:17
“Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God.”
Explanation:
Today’s Bible verse: In this verse, the writer talks of the risk posed when we depend on our religious identity as opposed to our personal relationship with God. According to Paul, the individual referred to as a Jew has been resting on the law and boasts in God. This individual knows the law of God and is proud of his identity as one of God’s elect. Just because someone has a lot of knowledge of God’s law and is proud of his religious identity does not necessarily make him faithful before God.
Today’s Bible verse. In addition, the message makes it clear that spiritual privileges carry an obligation too. It is so easy to take pride in our Bible reading, church-going, being a Christian, and religious acts, yet forget about obeying God. Our external identity must never become more important than the state of our heart. Faith is not just something we say we have; it should affect our interactions with others, our decision-making process, and our behavior regardless of whether or not anyone sees us.
Conclusion:
So, Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in summary, we can take this passage and use it in our own lives without relying just on being Christians and the activities associated with religion. We should thank God for his Word; however, we should not only accept his Word, but also obey it and allow it to transform our hearts and actions. Rather than boasting that we are Christians, we should prove our faith by humbly living lives full of love, integrity, compassion, and obedience to God.
