‘’Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil.’’
Explanation of this verse:
Today’s bible verse begins with the command to “wash” and “make [ourselves] clean.” This is a physical act that represents the need for us to cleanse ourselves of our sin. We cannot come to God with a dirty heart. We must first confess our sins and ask for His forgiveness. When we sincerely ask our God for forgiveness of our sins, He will surely forgive all our sins according to His promise as He has written in the Word. Ask and it shall be given to you, which is a clear proof that God never returns empty-handed to those who believe in Him.
The verse then commands us to “put away the evil of [our] doings from before mine eyes.” This is a call to put away our sinful behavior. We must stop doing the things that are displeasing to God. We must turn away from our evil ways and choose to live a life that is in line with His commandments. God is pure and He loves pure hearts, so He wants all human hearts to be pure. God loves us immensely and He wants His people to love Him and keep their hearts pure and clean. And those who do not have a pure heart, they certainly deserve the wrath of God and the fire of hell.
The verse concludes with the command to “cease to do evil.” This is a reminder that we must not continue in our sins. We must not go back to our old ways. We must choose to live a life of obedience to God. This life is a temporary life in which we are only being tested to see who will be counted among God’s chosen people. We need to prepare ourselves for eternal life. This earthly life is only a couple of days. After this life we have to return to our God and give an account of our deeds. And eternal life can be found only by obeying God’s commands.
