Proverbs 5:3
“For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil.”
Explanation:
Today’s Bible verse: We are cautioned against the deceiving aspect of temptation, particularly in this passage that talks of temptation that comes through the use of honey-like words in Proverbs 5:3. Here, “the strange woman” is a metaphor for someone who has not stayed within the parameters of marriage and godliness, and her words could be sweet as honey and smooth as oil. From this passage, we learn that temptation is often not seen to be dangerous at first sight.
Today’s Bible verse. This verse teaches us that we should not judge the situation or an object based on how nice and pleasant it is or feels. The sweet things that we hear or say can sometimes contain evil purposes which will take us away from wisdom, loyalty, and obedience towards God. God wants us to be wise and self-controlled so that we can resist the temptations and not commit sin. We need to think carefully about our relationships and words that affect us.

So, Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, this message can be applied in our lives through prudence in situations where we are complimented in a way that can lure us into entering a worldly relationship. Instead of seeking out immediate pleasures, we ought to guard our hearts, be loyal to our promises and ourselves, set good limits for ourselves, and pray to God for His wisdom and strength in times of temptation. We need to know that something can be sweet now but bitter in the future.
