John 5:18
“Therefore* the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”
Explanation:
In this verse, John 5:18 reveals the increasing hostility of the Jewish leadership against Jesus. This is seen through the fact that the Jewish leadership was angry at Jesus for healing the sick man on the Sabbath, and their anger became greater after Jesus referred to God as His Father. This is because, from the viewpoint of the Jews, Jesus was equating Himself with God.
Today’s Bible verse: This verse also highlights another truth regarding the relationship that Jesus Christ had with the Father. No matter what humans thought or felt about Him, Jesus was determined to do the work that the Father had given him. His sayings and deeds made his special relationship with the Father known. Through this verse, we learn that being true to God can at times make people criticize or oppose us, but we must be determined to stay on the right path anyway.
Conclusion:
So, Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, this principle can be applied in our daily lives by sticking to God despite the fact that people misunderstand, criticize, or oppose us as a result of doing right. Our aim should be to know the word of God, learn from His teachings, and have our actions prove our faith humbly and lovingly. Where there will be troubles because of our faithfulness to God, we must not react angrily or hatefully but continue to do right in trusting God and honoring Him in our actions.
